Who we help
When getting it outside is the hard part
By the council's own figures, no part of the Island has more residents whose health or a disability limits daily life a lot than Sandown North.
If you can't lift it
No dragging anything to the kerb by 7am. Point at it and we carry it.
Arranging it for a relative
A family member, carer or trusted neighbour can send the photos and deal with us.
Top-floor seafront flats
Tall Victorian and Edwardian blocks, divided into flats with shared stairs.
Guest houses
Replacing tired furniture before seafront parking tightens in summer.
The council's options
What helps, and where it stops
Useful services, but each assumes someone can get the item outside or to the tip.

Stairs count for more than size
A wardrobe at the top of a shared staircase takes longer than a ground-floor garage full of boxes. So we ask first.

Sent for specialist recycling. Empty and switch off the day before.
Good pieces kept back
Friends of the Animals on the High Street takes good small furniture; Mountbatten has a shop there too.
Garden waste too
Green waste and old garden furniture on the same visit.
Someone you look after needs a clear-out?
You can arrange it all for them by phone or with photos.
What we can't take
- Asbestos
- Gas bottles
- Paint, solvents and chemicals
- Clinical waste and sharps
Fabric furniture needs its fire safety label to be reused by a charity shop.
Areas we cover

Lake sits between Sandown and Shanklin and is covered on the same visit. Pick a neighbouring town for its details.
FAQ
Sandown and Lake questions
Short answers. If yours is not here, call or send it with your quote.
Can you carry things down from a top-floor flat?
Yes, it's a big part of our Sandown work. Tell us the floor, whether there's a lift and how the stairs turn, and we'll price it accurately.
My relative can't lift anything. Do they need to be there?
Someone needs to let us in and confirm what's going. That can be a family member, a carer or a trusted neighbour.
Can't the council's assisted collection take it?
That service is for your normal bins, for residents who can't move them and have no other adult at home who can. It doesn't cover a spare bed.
I run a guest house. Is that different?
Yes. Waste from a business goes by a different route from household rubbish. Mention it with your quote and we'll explain the paperwork.
Do you cover Lake?
Yes. Lake is part of the same run as Sandown and Shanklin.
