What we can't take

  • Gas cookers still connected
  • Appliances still plumbed or wired in
  • Commercial refrigeration (ask first)

Don't leave a washer on the drive for the scrap man: the council warns he may take the parts he wants and dump the rest. Cast-iron range or Aga? Ask us first. Smaller electricals: see e-waste disposal.

FAQ

White goods questions

Short answers. If yours is not here, call or send it with your quote.

Does the shop have to take my old fridge?

If you're buying a similar new appliance, the retailer must take the old one back free. Collection from your home may be charged separately, so ask when you order.

Will the council collect my washing machine?

Yes, through the bulky waste service: £62 for up to four items, as of October 2026. It must be at the kerbside or in the front garden by 7am, as the council doesn't collect from inside homes.

Do I need to defrost the freezer first?

Yes, please. Switch it off and empty it the day before, and leave the door open with a towel underneath, so it doesn't leak through the house.

Can you disconnect my cooker?

Not a gas cooker: that has to be a Gas Safe registered engineer. Hard-wired electric cookers need an electrician to disconnect them first.

Can you take a fridge from the garage?

Yes. We collect from any room, garage or outbuilding.

What happens to my old fridge?

It goes for WEEE recycling at a licensed facility, where the refrigerant gases are removed safely before the metal and plastic are recycled.
