How a shop clearance compares
A trade bin handles daily rubbish. A clearance handles the fittings, stock and refit waste a bin never will.
| Compare | Trade waste bin | Skip on the street | Charity shop tip permit | UsOur shop clearance |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Takes fittings and refit waste | No: bins of 140 to 1,100 litres | Yes, once someone has broken them down | No: unsellable donated household goods only | Yes, dismantled and loaded by us |
| What it costs | A contract | Hire, plus a £44 weekly highway licence on the road | Free, two permits a month | One fixed price, agreed first |
| On a busy high street | Your usual collection | 10 clear working days' notice for the licence; normally refused on pavements | You drive it to the tip | Loaded at a time you agree with us |

- Asbestos ceiling tiles or panels
- Aerosols, solvents and chemicals in quantity
- Gas cylinders
- Fluorescent tubes
- Perishable food stock in bulk
Selling goods that are flammable, pressurised or hazardous? Tell us what they are when you ask for a quote. Some need a specialist hazardous waste carrier, and we can't issue certificates of destruction.

FAQ
Retail clearance questions
Short answers. If yours is not here, call or send it with your quote.
Can you clear the shop before we open or after we close?
Often, yes. Tell us your opening hours and any loading restrictions on your street and we'll agree a time before anything is booked. On pedestrianised streets an early start is usually easiest.
Do you take the shop fittings apart?
Yes. Counters, gondola shelving, wall systems and display cabinets are dismantled on site so they can be carried out and separated for recycling.
What happens to unsold stock?
Usable goods are set aside for reuse where possible, textiles go for recycling, electricals for WEEE recycling, and the rest to licensed facilities. If stock must be destroyed rather than reused, tell us when you book.
We're a charity shop and have used our tip permits. Can you help?
Yes. The council's two free permits a month cover unsellable donated household goods only. Waste from the shop's own business, such as fittings or clearance furniture, is commercial waste. We collect either, as a registered carrier, with a transfer note.
Can you take the refit building waste too?
Yes. Plasterboard, timber, ceiling tiles and flooring can go in the same visit as the fittings, with plasterboard and rubble kept apart. Asbestos is the exception and needs a specialist.
Will I get a waste transfer note?
Yes, for every retail clearance. It records what the waste is and who took it. Keep it for at least two years as part of your duty of care.
